a dinosaur hunting license
a dinosaur hunter certificate
Preparation:
Set a date (Saturday morning?)
Talk about the hunt beforehand (build excitement)
Print out Dinosaur Hunting Licenses (and laminate them)
Print out Dinosaur Hunter Certificates (suitable for framing)
Action:
Wake up early, get everybody ready to go
Head out, on foot to the woods
Discuss woods safety and the need for stealthy quiet.
Make up stories of hunts you were on when you were a kid,
the dinos you saw
the fact you never had a camera
stories of beauty and close calls
When you enter the woods, make believe you see evidence of different dinos in the area.
Even tho they are not here right now, the could come back.
Creep slowly and surely thru the woods
Point out nature to the child/children
Show them how the woods work and the beauty that can be found.
Point out flora and fauna
Make up a story about plants, trees and bushes that each dinosaur likes to eat.
Eat your snacks but leave no trace behind for the dinos to track you back home.
Spend a few hours with your children and allow their imaginations to run.
Keep them SAFE but make up dinosaur related danger.
Take shelter behind a tree because you saw a glimpse of one in the distance.
Be very, very quiet, we don't want to attract its attention.
When you return to home, talk about the imaginary dinosaurs that were in the woods.
Were they scary or were they friendly?
Print out a Dinosaur Hunter Certificate with the child's name and the date of the hunt.
Sign your name as the Dino Guide at the bottom.
Let them keep their Dinosaur Hunting License as an ID card.
Years later, when they are grown, they will remember the dino hunting excursions.
Perhaps they will even go on dino hunting excursions with their own children.
