*Carrie 1: Mother Made Me (1976)
7.40 Rating 98 min
It's nearing the end of the school year. High school senior Carrie White is a social outcast, largely due to being unwise to the ways of the world based on her upbringing. Her mother, Margaret White, is a religious fanatic, her extreme views primarily targeted against sex, which she believes is a sin. She even believes natural associated processes such as menstruation are a sin, about which she has refused to mention to Carrie. Mrs. White's beliefs were taken to that extreme largely because of her own failed marriage and her husband Ralph long ago having run off with another woman. The only adult authority figure who tries to help Carrie with her life is her phys ed teacher, Miss Collins, who is nonetheless warned not to get too close to go against how Mrs. White chooses to raise Carrie, Mrs. White whose beliefs are well known in the community. An impromptu event that happens among Carrie's phys ed classmates against her leads to her classmates being punished. One of those students, self absorbed Chris Hargensen, vows revenge against Carrie for that punishment, the method of the revenge associated to the phys ed class incident. Another student however, the popular Sue Snell, begins to feel sorry for Carrie. In wanting to help her get out of her shell, Sue asks her boyfriend, the equally popular Tommy Ross, to take Carrie to the senior prom instead of her. This move does not sit well with Mrs. White, who in her extreme view believes Carrie will fall prey to sin. All these competing issues lead to Carrie deciding on an impulse to use a newfound skill to free herself from the figurative chains that have long been placed around her, with tragic consequences.

Now 23 years later, Sue is a counselor at the new high school where she seems to develop most of her time on Rachel Lang, a troubled young girl whose best friend has just committed suicide. Rachel is a normal girl, except for the fact that she can move things with her mind from time to time. Some of the football jocks are planning to humiliate Rachel at the biggest party of the year, using the unknowing Jesse Ryan as bait, because she told on them being involved in her friend's death. If only everyone knew that Rachel is Carrie's long-lost half-sister.

*Carrie (2002) ~ remake
5.40 Rating 1H:32 mins
Based on the Stephen King novel, this is a made-for-TV remake of the 1976 classic horror flick about an abused, mousy girl with telekinetic powers. Carrie White, whose unique powers are showcased early on, is an introspective teenager whose domineering, religious mother, Margaret, raises her in an almost hateful manner. Life is worse at school: Her cruel classmates constantly tease her at every turn. Things escalate when Carrie freaks out in gym class when she has her first period, resulting in her classmates pulling an action that crosses the lines of heinousness. Carrie's teachers stick up for her, banning instigator Chris Hargenson from the school prom. One of the involved girls feels guilty for her actions by setting her boyfriend up as Carrie's prom date. But Chris raises the stakes by hatching a plot with her boyfriend to humiliate Carrie at the prom. Everything goes according to plan... that is, except for Carrie's reaction. And it's a reaction that has everyone regretting that they ever wrongly passed Carrie's path.

A misfit from the moment she first stepped out into the world, high-school senior Carrie White (Chloƫ Grace Moretz) has been taunted and teased by her peers as far back as she can remember. Her mother Margaret (Julianne Moore) is a Christian zealot prone to locking her in a small broom closet and making her pray for hours on end. All Carrie wants is to fit in, but after the shock of experiencing her first period in the gym shower results in a devastating bout of bullying initiated by cruel Chris Hargensen (Portia Doubleday) and her circle of friends, the young outcast realizes that she has the ability to move objects with the power of her mind alone. Meanwhile, as gym teacher Miss Desjardin (Judy Greer) bans Chris from the prom following a defiant outburst by the entitled teen, Chris' best friend Sue Snell (Gabriella Wilde) begins having second thoughts about the way that Carrie has been treated. In an attempt to atone for her past misdeeds, Sue convinces her lacrosse-star boyfriend Tommy Ross (Ansel Elgort) to ask Carrie to the prom -- an invitation that she eventually accepts.
