*Rollerball (1975)
6.60 Rating 125 min It's sometime in the future. The current world order emerged out of the Corporate Wars. Also emerging out of it is the ultra-violent and occasionally deadly, despite rules, team sport of Rollerball, it as a spectator sport treated like a religion, generally matching the narcissistic world culture. Each professional team is controlled by a different corporation. After ten years, Jonathan E., who rolls for the team from Houston, is arguably the star of the team and sport, so much so that Houston's controllers, the Energy Corporation, want to do a televised profile of him. In speaking directly with Bartholomew, the corporate Chair, Jonathan learns that the profile is being designed by the Corporation for him to announce his retirement, despite he himself having no thoughts of retirement being at the top of the sport. Jonathan in the past has done whatever asked of him by the Corporation, even giving up his first wife, Ella, as one of the executives was interested in her himself, but he quietly resists this move to push him out. With help from some friends, including his personal trainer Cletus who is also on the executive, Jonathan goes on a quest not only to find out why they want him out but what it actually means for his life, or possibly death, as Houston goes on a march toward the end of the season championship match in New York.
