I've been a collector nearly my entire life.
My father collected records and books.
As a child, I started collecting records and books too.
I amassed so many I started to share them with the other kids in my neighborhood.
We had living room parties listening to records and talking about the books we've read.
It was fun and it became pretty popular.
When 8-Track tapes came out, I started replacing some of my albums.
My collection of music started to get larger when I was given an 8-Track Recorder.
As this was happening I sorted my Comics collection and rented them out to friends and neighbors.
My nickname was "The Librarian"
Then, Cassettes came out.
Not only did I start replacing my 8-Tracks of music, I started recording radio and audio stories to add to my collections.
Meanwhile, I discovered book clubs and yard sales.
My collections continued to grow.
During my military career, I discovered paperback book clubs and the Science Fiction Book Club.
When Cassettes lost to Compact Disc, I was in heaven.
My Laser Disc Player gave way to Beta which soon gave way to VHS.
I started collecting Movies and TV Shows, often recording directly from Cable.
But...I was forced to yet again convert my now very large collections.
When DVD came out, yet again I was converting my collections and this was getting pretty expensive!
I bought a Windows 95 PC, Then a Windows 98SE, a Windoze ME, a Windows XP, a Windows Vista
a Windows 7 and Now I have a Windows 10 Gaming system.
I started converting and burning my video collections to disc.
It was coming along nicely till BluRay came out.
I considered converting my collection yet again, then I realized I could fit a lot of videos on my hard drive in electronic formats.
I started converting all my collections to electronic format.
Everything...pictures, books (I bought a scanner), music, movies, TV Shows, Home Videos..., Even official documents.
All my life I constantly battled space to fit all my collections and DUST!
Not anymore.
I have all of it on external hard drives now.
My computer is hooked up to my flat screen TV and my surround sound stereo.
I can watch anything I want, anytime I want to.
I can listen to any song I want, Anytime I want to.
I can play a slideshow of family photos set to music.
I can email any document as I need.
Plus, I have backup copies of all of it.
